day 102

this week's theme is {us}, which means i need to make an effort to include myself in the frame since i'm a part of "us".  it's still april though, and i'm wickedly stubborn, so i'm still making myself shoot with my iphone.  i cannot say emphatically enough how thankful i am the the lens kit i got for christmas also came with a little iphone holder and tripod set up.  so.  thankful.  taking a self portrait is challenging enough with a regular camera, but trying to set up a phone and take a picture with a 10 second timer one frame at a time is... well, let's just say i'm going to get plenty of exercise this week.  if i didn't have the little tripod guy, i'd probably also end up getting a new phone by the end of the week too.  as it is, my kids are (so far) enjoying watching me run back and forth from my phone to wherever they are and then pretending like they don't see the camera (or in some cases, cheesing so hard that i could stick them on a plate of crackers and serve them at a party).  i was feeling dissatisfied with much of what i got today, so i have 2 sets.

set 1: this is where you'll find us on a typical weekday afternoon around 2:30- on the couch, watching tv, eating snack, and generally trying to wake up and gear up for the second half of the day.

and set 2: when we start to get restless, you'll find us in the kitchen looking for creative ways to eat our way out of our boredom.  today we made 3 ingredient microwave cakes- 1 banana, 1 egg, 1 tbsp cocoa powder.  bam.  yummy afternoon boredom killer.

and one more unrelated to this week's theme- because when you put away a set of toys for several weeks and then pull them back out, it's like they're brand new and even more captivating than they were the first time around, and that's something to share and celebrate :)

day 79

weekends in our house typically fall under one of two extremes: non-stop busy or stay-in-our-pajamas-till-dinner lazy.  we tossed around the idea of going to an easter event today, but i was in big need of sleep, so i slept in while the kids logged some daddy time.  by the time i was up and moving, it was too late in the morning to fit anything in before nap time, so it automatically turned into a lazy day.  and, since lazy days don't really lend themselves to interesting stories, i decided to try something different today.  to help give me some direction for the afternoon, and to give a full look at what lazy looks like around here, i gave myself 2-3 minutes to take a few frames of what we were up to every half hour from the end of nap time to when we sat down for dinner.

2:30- wake up slowly.  really, really slowly.

3:00- play time with cars and thomas the train toys for the 800th time

3:30- run to the store with daddy to pick up a few things that we forgot while we were out yesterday

4:00- take advantage of a kid-free house and unload the dishwasher

4:30- return from the store and refuel with daddy.  and also thomas the train.

5:00-  a little more play time with daddy, thomas the train, and cars.

5:30- cook dinner

and there it is, a lazy afternoon in our life :)

day 74

my afternoons (early afternoons, anyway), are a special, sacred time.  both of my kids are pretty decent nappers (hallelujah) so on a typical afternoon, i get at least an hour of silence to do whatever i can't get done during their waking hours.  sometimes that means plopping on the couch and closing my eyes for an hour because i'm too wrung out to make myself move or think, but more often than not it involves eating food i'm unwilling to share and flash cleaning my house as silently as i can.

today, it meant laundry.

lots and lots and lots of laundry.  thankfully this was laundry that got washed and dried yesterday, so i was down to the folding stage, which means a lot less waiting but a lot more kids-try-to-help if i don't get it done before they wake up.  it's almost like a little game, except that winning just means i need to take it upstairs and put it away, and losing means i have to re-fold it and then take it upstairs and put it away.  still, i like to come to the game prepared.

baby monitors, so if either one of the boys decides to try to end their nap after 40 minutes, i can run upstairs and remedy the situation as quickly as possible.

heating pad, because it was rainy and gross today which meant i was achy, and also because i'm cold all the time and this bad boy keeps me cozy warm.

and the essentials- reheated coffee, the rest of my lunch that i didn't get to finish because the kids staged a coup, a glass of water, and gilmore girls streaming from netflix.

after all of that is gathered and set up (which eats into about 20 minutes of my precious hour), i can finally get down to actually folding.

this is out of focus for a reason.  i was not worthy of an in-focus picture today ;)

unfortunately, i didn't get everything folded before my little minions woke up from their slumber.  on the upside, their mimi bought them some new toys yesterday, so those proved a strong enough distraction (along with an extra episode of thomas the tank engine and a bowl of pretzels each) for me to get the rest folded with minimal, ahem, help :)  now if i could just find the time to actually get all those folded clothes into their drawers...

day 30

every afternoon this past week, when i've dragged my germ-ridden self upstairs to get my kiddos from their naps, i've noticed this really gorgeous light filtering in through the blinds in our master bedroom and quietly laying across our bed.  it dimly registered in my tired, wrung-out brain that it would be really wonderful to try to photograph it, but i just didn't have the energy to carry my camera all the way upstairs and then also try to manage my children while playing around with it.  today, however, i'm finally feeling like a human again, and since both the big and the little woke up in good mods, i gave myself permission to go off-prompt for the last day of week 4 so i could try to reignite my desire to take pictures by experimenting with the sunshine.  still, i'm hoping for an early bedtime tonight, so instead of saying any more, i'll just jump straight to the photos from here.

happy weekend all :)
